When I started this digital marketing and social media course, I quickly came to understand that this field is far from what I expected, it was so much more dynamic and creative. Here is how my experience went and the things I have learned from DigifyNG week 1.
Imagine being able to tell everyone about your favorite toy, but instead of just your friend, you tell the whole world. This is what digital marketing does for businesses. Digital marketing means using the internet and things like phones, computers, and tablets to let people know about your business.
How does Digital Marketing Exactly Operate?
Different techniques are used by various businesses in digital marketing in order to communicate with people and convey certain information. Here are some of the most popular ways:
Websites: This is done by having your own page on the internet. A website informs the public about the products, services, or goods you offer, your location, and the reason why individuals should Shop from you.
Emails: Just like you can write a message to your friends, telling them something, a business can send an email to people informing them of new products or discounted products.
Ads: They are messages or visual content created by businesses or individuals to promote a product, service, or idea. While watching a YouTube video or a game on a tablet. Those are digital ads whereby businesses inform the public about their products.
As you get started in digital and social media marketing, you will probably have to learn some new technologies, try out different online spaces, and interact with different kinds of people. You may begin by getting a sense of how websites, e-mail, and social networking sites can be used to advertise a brand or product. Over time, you should gain enough facilities that you can develop and execute a successful marketing program.
PROGRESSION IN MARKETING
Traditional Marketing VS Digital Marketing
Both traditional and digital marketing aim to promote products and services, but they differ in their approaches, channels, and audiences.
1. Traditional Marketing
Traditional marketing is anything except the internet. It is the most old form of marketing that has been in vogue for years. The following are included in it:
TV commercials: Ads aired on television networks.
Radio ads: Commercials broadcasted over radio stations.
Print ads: Advertisements in newspapers, magazines, brochures, and flyers.
Billboards and posters: Large outdoor ads placed in high-traffic areas.
Direct mail: Printed marketing materials sent directly to customers' homes.
2. Digital Marketing
Digital marketing is the promotion of products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media and differs from traditional marketing in that it involves the use of channels and methods that enable an organization to analyze marketing campaigns and understand what is working and what isn’t – typically in real-time. Digital marketers monitor things like what is being viewed, how often and for how long, sales conversions, what content works and doesn’t work, etc. While the Internet is, perhaps, the channel most closely associated with digital marketing, others include wireless text messaging, mobile instant messaging, mobile apps, podcasts, electronic billboards, digital television and radio channels, etc.
Social media marketing: Promoting on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
Search engine marketing (SEM): Ads on search engines like Google Ads.
Email marketing: Sending promotional emails to engage customers.
Content marketing: Blogs, videos, or articles that give value and promote a brand.
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising: Ads that charge businesses every time a user clicks on them.
What is Social Media?
Facebook is simply kindergarten. It’s like a playground that is open for everyone to come and express themselves through words, pictures, or even games. Such as Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube by which people share content like photos, videos, or posts. As such it may be argued that social media are means of communication that enable businesses to communicate with their consumers as well as advertising media through which the businesses are able to present commodities.
Why is Digital Marketing and Social Media Important?
Makes Shopping Easier
Reaches More People
Fun and Engaging
In my experiment with digital marketing and social media, I gained insights into creativity, strategy as well as engagement. This, I think, is my biggest takeaway: always listen to your audience, trust the data, but never stop experimenting.
All these mean that when I apply these lessons I am certain of setting up a good relationship and coming up with better campaigns in the future.
